About
Saslonch is a journaling application designed to help you keep track of your important events,
emotions, and personal development — or whatever you wish to jot down about your day.
I initially created this app for myself because I couldn't find a journaling method that suited me. Writing in a notebook takes much longer than typing.
This journal application has evolved from a simple template in a Word document and a Python app. It's also my first web application,
so if you have any tips or encounter any bugs, please send me an email!
Privacy 🔒
I aim to provide a safe environment for people to reflect on their thoughts. Personally, this means that my journal entries are private,
and only I can read them. Therefore, privacy and data protection are very important to me,
and I've put extra effort into ensuring that your journal entries are completely private.
Your journal entries are
end-to-end encrypted in your browser.
This means that your data is stored encrypted on the server, and no one besides you can decipher it.
Only after you log into the website and request a specific journal entry for a day can you decrypt and read it.
Your encryption key is based on your username and password, which means that as the admin,
I do not have access to your encryption key and cannot help you restore your data if you lose your password.
However, there is a backup option: during registration, you receive a
20-digit recovery code
(only known to you!) that you must store safely. If you lose your password or feel the need to change it, you can restore and re-encrypt your data using this code.
So, it's crucial to keep the code somewhere safe.
Your privacy is the top priority. We want you to feel safe and secure when using our app, so we only use cookies for essential purposes. Here's how they work:
- Session Cookies: These cookies help our app remember that you're logged in as you move between pages.
They don't track your activity or store personal information beyond what's necessary to keep your session active.
- Security Cookies: We also use cookies to protect your data and ensure that your interactions with our app are secure.
These cookies help prevent unauthorized access and keep your information safe.
Importantly, we do not use cookies for tracking your activity or sharing your data with third parties.
Your journal entries and activities on this app are completely private, secure, and visible only to you.
How to use this app?
To use the app, first create an account with a strong password. After the account verification process, you can log into the website.
Once logged in, you can select a day from the calendar to edit. Of course, you can only choose to reflect on today or days that are in the past.
After selecting a day, click the "Start/Edit Entry" button. This will load your entry from the server and decrypt it in your browser.
After you have completed an entry you can choose to submit it. This will encrypt the data with your private key and store it on the server.
You can also choose to a previous entry you've made. When you submit the entry again, the data will be encrypted and stored on the server again.
How to journal?
There are pre-defined fields you can use, such as tracking your emotions or noting important events of the day.
However, it is entirely up to you how you want to journal and what you decide to jot down.
Feel free to use the app in whatever way suits you best—there is no right or wrong. Free style!
Reminders and to-dos are persistent across days. This means that if you fill out these fields,
they will reappear in the following days, allowing you to keep track of ongoing tasks.
There is also the option to generate a PDF of your entry.
